Parma Violet 'Lady Hume Campbell'
A sensational rare 19th century Parma Violet that we are very excited to offer for the first time. The very double, baby rose shaped and incredibly fragrant flowers are a deep lavender colour and borne in profusion. It has superbly healthy, glossy, heart-shaped foliage. $8.50
Fuchsia triphylla 'Thalia'
This is one of the oldest and finest of the shrub Fuchsia varieties. It has an upright habit, lush olive green foliage and masses of spectacular clusters of long tubular coral-red flowers. In areas with heavy frosts, bring under cover in winter. It is more sun tolerant than almost any other fuchsia. $8.50
Lime Verbena Aloysia triphylla
Absolutely irresistible! Many of you will be familiar with the delightful Lemon Verbena shrub with its intensely lemon scented foliage used in herbal teas, to flavour everything from seafood to cakes, and used particularly in the French perfumery industry. Now there is a Lime Verbena. It looks just the same but the scent is that or pure freshly squeezed Tahitian lime. It would make a perfect fragrant garden hedge or feature planting for a herb garden and the large sprays of fairy-like white flowers make it equally welcome in the flower garden or grown in a large pot. $9.50
Jasminum 'Duke of Tuscany'
Simply one of the most beautiful and richly fragrant flowers on the planet. The shrub grows up to 1.2 m - 1.5 m in warm climates, is evergreen, and repeat flowering The abundant white flowers are double and resemble baby roses. In Hawaii it is called 'pikake'. The flowers are used to flavour jasmine tea (put a few flowers in the pot), and in perfumery. In frost prone areas bring under cover in winter. It loves humidity and and hot warm weather and is drought resistant when established. Gorgeous plants. $15.50
Salvia involucrata 'Pink Icicles'
Quite simply sensational. This is a variety of of the Rose Leaf Sage, making an upright shrub to around 1.0 m. The spectacular and abundant long dense flower spikes are a stunning clear ice pink. There is nothing else like it. An easy grower in a sunny position. For us it flowers through autumn and winter with some in spring. $8.50
Clematis montana 'Moonlight'
Simply delicious and a must have. This choice grows happily in a wide range of climates and smothers in semi-double to double palest cream flowers faintly blushed with pink and the size of a fifty cent piece. It will grow from 6-8 m making it perfect over arches and pergolas. $12.95
Akebia longeracemosa Vanilla Scented Akebia
This beautiful rare Chinese species is evergreen and frost resistant. The rather wistaria-like racemes of flowers are in deep rose to maroon and are deliciously scented of vanilla. It likes a well drained soil and full sun (not a western aspect) for at least part of the day. $9.50
Oxypetalum caeruleum Tweedia
There is no plant with flowers this exact colour - like the pure blue of a Siamese cat's eyes - with tiny turquoise centre.. It forms a sturdy little aspirational climber to about 90 cm with lots of starry blue flowers and velvety grey-green foliage. foliage. In warmer districts it is long lived. Evergreen. Cut back by a third in spring. Loves full sun. $8,50
Aquilegia canadensis Rock Bell or Honeysuckle or Meeting Houses or Canadian Columbine
This charming wild perennial columbine bears on elegant wiry stems to 60+ cm numerous nodding medium spurred flowers with glowing crimson calyces and clear lemon petals with long protuberant golden stamens. The foliage resembles maidenhair fern. As an aside, honeyeaters adore it - as do bees..It likes a well drained position, 50 - 100% sunshine. Easy to grow. $8.50
Vitex agnus-castus The Chaste Tree or Texas Lilac
Even if you can't grow lilac, you will be able to achieve the effect with this spectacular shrub. It is very drought resistant too once established and can be used in dryland gardens. It forms a tallish shrub with an abundance of lilac coloured flower spikes in early summer and will continue in bursts until the first frost. It has few natural enemies (not even possums and wallabies!). As a bonus the small purple fruit is used a s a pepper substitute, the dried seeds have a lemon scent and the aromatic leaves are also used. It forms an ingredient of the Moroccan spice mixture ras-el hanout. The fruits have also been used for thousands of years in balancing out female hormones (and balancing sexual activity to average levels. A perfume is also made from the flowers which have a delightful fragrance while the foliage is strongly aromatic. Restrain pruning - just shape in early spring. $12.95
